"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." ~ John 1:1
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all of this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people" ~ Ephesians 6: 10-18
Matt, Madelyn, and I attend Grace Pointe Church in Naperville, IL. This past Sunday, Pastor Dan preached a sermon entitled, "The Importance of God's Word." (To listen to this message, click on the following link The Importance of God's Word ) Essentially, he talked about how God's Word should permeate our entire lives, yet most of us struggle to be in His Word daily. The directive is clear, yet as I have been reflecting on this message this week, I realize that this is true in my life as well. I believe in God, trust that His Word is the absolute truth, and even try to spread His Word to others, yet I struggle to be IN the Word every day.
I am grateful that, despite my shortcomings, God accepts me as I am and calls me His own. I am also thankful for forgiveness, which comes through Jesus Christ alone. I look forward to the 40 Days in the Word journey that our church is about to embark upon and hope and pray that I will come out of it with a renewed passion and thirst for the true food of the soul.
