What Will You Do with the Seed?

(5-17-2012)

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” ~ Matthew 13:18-23

I love planting things and watching them grow. It is so exciting when you first see the sprouts popping through the soil. It's even more exciting when you have a bunch of starters and they begin popping through and you have no idea what they are! (We use those indoor starter kits and even though we make a legend of what we planted, we usually end up losing it.)

Seeing our new sprouts this week makes me think about the seed that is planted in each and every one of us, the Word of God. Each of us has a choice as to what we will do with the Word. Some of us will hear the Word but not be changed. Others may joyfully jump into the Word with their head but never fully accept or understand it in their hearts. Still others may hear the Word, believe and obey it for a time, but then because of the busyness of life, forget about it.

We each have a choice when it comes to the Word of God. What will you do with it?
